walk and hike in Yokohama, Japan

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.1″]

Every weekend our family goes for a walk or hike. Forest is our happy place. Currently, we are living in Yokohama, Japan, and we would like to share some of our best walking routes.

Forest walks near Yokohama

Our family loves forest walks. We feel energized and charged for the next week when we walk in a green forest surrounded by the sound of wind and birds. As big fans of Ghibli we are always happy to find trails which give us the Totoro forest vibes – moss covered stones and tree trunks, windy bamboo groves and green tunnels trough dense overgrowth.

The walks and hikes we choose to do are easy enough to be done with kids. We are living in Yokohama for the last 4 years and we currently have two kids 5 and 1 years old. We plan our walks, so that they rarely take more than half a day and we usually pack our own lunch.

We usually cover some 2-5 kilometers, definitely not more than 8 and it takes us somewhere between 2-3 and in rare cases up to 5 hours. Most of the time is usually spent resting, eating, taking photos, exploring nature, trees, birds, so even if it is a long day it is usually because we have had lots of fun during the walk and not because it is difficult.

I hope this list of walks serves as an inspiration to go out and explore local trails. I have provided GPX files, photos, and videos, when possible and you are welcome to comment and ask any questions on our YouTube channel.

We took a train ride from Negishi to Kanazawa-Hakkei. At Shin-Sugita, you have to change to Seaside Line and ride the awesome automated guideway transit train to Kanazawa-Hakkei. Peaceful walk to Ottomo beach and then to Marine Park. Lots of small streets.
